Straight answers to the questions law firms and individuals ask most about interpretation methods, from remote and on-site interpretation to sight translation and USCIS interviews.

Choosing the Right Interpretation Method

Interpretation isn't one service, it's a set of methods (over the phone, video, on-site, simultaneous, consecutive, sight translation) each suited to a different setting: a deposition, a court hearing, a USCIS interview, or a client consultation.

This guide breaks down how each method works, when it applies, and how to tell an interpreter apart from a translator when you're not sure which one you need.

Frequently Asked Questions About Interpretation

A translator works with written documents. An interpreter works with spoken language, in real time, whether that's over the phone, by video, or in person.

Most depositions use consecutive interpretation, where the interpreter speaks after each statement, or simultaneous interpretation for longer, multi-party proceedings. Remote (Video Remote Interpretation or OPI) works for most depositions; some cases require an on-site interpreter.

If the applicant isn't fluent in English, USCIS generally requires a qualified interpreter at the interview. We provide interpreters who meet USCIS requirements for immigration interviews.

Yes. Most interpretation requests, including Video Remote Interpretation and OPI, can be arranged same-day or on rush notice.
